I went to Skydive Sydney-Newcastle for my milestone birthday early July and had the most amazing experience, jumping out of a plane at 15,000 ft in the air. My instructor Joe (tandem jump) was really friendly and the staff on the ground were great as well. The lady at the front desk was very welcoming and helpful. The Covid19 protocol has also been followed and you get a mask to wear on the plane and there are lots of hand sanitizers on the ground at various places around their facility. However, due to Covid, there was unfortunately no shuttle available. Thus, we had to rent a car in Sydney but it allowed us to explore the foreshore of Newcastle (Queens Wharf Hotel for lunch with a waterfront view) and its beaches (Nobbys Lighthouse to Newcastle Memorial Walk) in the afternoon/evening, so it turned out even better. I’m a big fan of adrenaline and extreme sport. It was my second time as I have already done it about a decade ago with my dad for another significant birthday in a rural area in North America (possibly 9,000 ft). Needless to say, the view I had in Newcastle was nowhere near comparable to the jump I did in the past. The view was really breathtaking & I still can’t get over the view and the feeling I experienced! I highly recommend this place. I always wanted to jump on the Australian coast and I hesitated for a moment this year between doing it in Wollongong or Newcastle. I'm really glad I did it in Newcastle because I really believe that Lake Macquarie and all the coves/bays/lakes really improve the already amazing ocean view. I didn’t know where to look, trying to get all the views at once! The color of the water was also incredible. I knew the view was going to be great because I had watched the videos and seen photos during my research, but that didn't even do it justice. It was a thousand times better in person. And it was a cloudy winter day. So I can only imagine what it looks like on a sunny summer day! I’ll probably have to come back to find out! Stop thinking about it, do it! You won’t regret it! P-S : Very happy also to have taken the video (handicam) & photos package (+$179), because it is really worth it with this view! I hesitated because I had already jumped in the past, but … once again, it had nothing to do with the view in Newcastle. I'm so happy to have video and photos to relive the whole experience over and over again! Plus, if you book your jump directly on their Skydive Australia website, you get a $20 voucher on merchandise. I got a t-shirt for $15 (regular price $35) and my friend got his tank top/singlet for free as it was on sale for $20. Do it.
Wow this was by far one of my favourite activities on my holiday to Australia! The day begins with a minibus ride from Sydney Central Station to the skydiving centre located at Lake Macquarie. Pickup was around 7.15am and we arrived at the airport around 10.15am. It’s quite a long journey but the sights we passed were amazing and we especially enjoyed driving over the Sydney Harbour Bridge. On arrival we were checked in by a friendly lady who took our authorisation forms that we had filled in on our way there as well as confirmed we had sorted our membership for the Australian Parachute Federation. At the desk we had a choice of buying a video and photos and also opting for a beach landing. As I’ve done a skydive before I didn’t require a video but I decided to purchase the beach landing which I highly recommend. Next thing we were kitted out and given a safety briefing by another friendly team member, she checked we were all ready and encouraged us to watch the previous group landing so we got a better idea of how to land comfortably. After a short wait our plane pulled up and our instructors were preparing for our group to board next, my instructor was Joe, he super friendly and really informative throughout the flight and during the jump, he also offered me some great suggestions of other activities to do whilst on my holiday in Sydney which was really helpful. Even though I have done 2 jumps previously in the UK that didn’t ease my nerves, as I was the first to jump out the plane I was bricking it especially as we reached 12000 ft but as soon as the door was opened and I was dangling out of the plane I knew there was no going back, then after what felt like forever hanging out the plane we were dropping at through the air, the views were outstanding of the beaches, Lake Macquarie and the Pacific Ocean, this was definitely far better than my previous skydives. Once the parachute was opened after around 60 seconds of freefall, Joe even allowed me to take control for a short time. The landing was great, I really enjoyed getting to land on the beach rather than the usual runway and it definitely offered the perfect ending to an amazing skydive. Back at the airport we were given certificates and my partner had some photos and a video to watch which were really good, so if I’d recommend buying these if you want memories to show friends and family back home. We had a small issue with our booking and we were really grateful to the lady on the desk for providing us with a branded vest each as an apology, it was completely unexpected. Before I finish my review I want to offer some advise to anyone planning to do a skydive here, the first is if you are hesitant if to book, just book it as you definitely won’t regret it! Another thing is if you’re planning to bring your own GoPro to film the skydive then don’t bother as do to this you need to have completed at least 100 jumps, this rule applies to all skydive centres, not just this one. My final price of advise is to allow a full day for this activity, we left Sydney at 07.15am and arrived back at The Circular Quay at 16.25. My group was the 7th to jump and I think there was 11 in total so once we completed our jump we spent some time at the nearby Naru Beach which is only a 10 min walk away, on the way make sure to pick up a slushy from the family run stand on the residential street, the slushies are amazing.
